Bangladesh Braces for Dengue Spike Amid Rainfall 

Bangladesh is facing renewed dengue concerns as rains spark a rise in Aedes mosquito density. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 20 people have died and 2,586 have been hospitalised with dengue so far this year, with April seeing a notable spike. Experts warn that mosquito breeding indices are already higher than last year, raising fears of a severe surge by June if immediate control measures aren’t taken. Entomologists urge stronger government action, including establishing mosquito control units and eliminating breeding sites. Meanwhile, Dhaka’s city corporations have begun intensified mosquito control drives ahead of monsoon season. Read more >>

Avian Influenza A(H5N1) Case Confirmed in Mexico 

On April 2, 2025, Mexico reported its first human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) to the WHO. The case involved a child in Durango who developed symptoms in March and later died from respiratory complications. The infection's source remains under investigation, though recent bird outbreaks were confirmed in the area. No additional human cases have been linked to this incident so far. Read more >>

Czech Cities Implement Enhanced Public Transport Disinfection Amid Hepatitis A Increase 

Several Czech cities, including Prague, are intensifying public transport disinfection efforts due to a Hepatitis A surge. Following COVID-19 protocols, buses, trams, and metros are undergoing more frequent cleaning to curb the virus's spread. This measure aims to protect public health as cases rise in urban centers. Hepatitis A symptoms include fever, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain and jaundice, typically appearing 2–6 weeks after exposure. Mumps Case Confirmed in Washtenaw County; Nationwide Cases Reported 

Washtenaw County confirmed its first mumps case since 2018, with a second probable case reported on April 10, 2025. While symptoms are usually mild, adults are at greater risk for complications, including inflammation of the brain, reproductive organs, and even hearing loss. Across the U.S., 35 confirmed cases were reported in early 2025, particularly in close-contact settings like schools and colleges. Health officials urge residents to verify their MMR vaccination status and ensure they’ve received two doses for optimal protection.
