Stay Safe This Summer: Risk of Enteric Infection from Contaminated Cold Picnic Foods

As summer picnics return, so do risks from ready-to-eat foods. The Food Standards Agency has recalled Grape Tree Raw Unsalted Macadamia Nuts and Wall’s The Classic Scotch Egg due to Salmonella contamination. These products pose a heightened risk because they are typically consumed without cooking, allowing harmful bacteria to cause enteric infections such as salmonellosis.

At TNAC, we support enteric disease research with a comprehensive range of high-quality enteric antigens and proteins, with additional targets currently in development. Contact us to learn more about our expanding portfolio.

Scientists Uncover CMV’s Secret Entry Tactic; New Hope for Prevention

Researchers have identified a hidden protein complex—GATE—that allows cytomegalovirus (CMV) to infiltrate blood vessel cells while evading immune detection. This discovery, published in Nature Microbiology, sheds light on why vaccine efforts have failed for decades. CMV is the leading infectious cause of birth defects in the U.S., and this finding opens a promising path for targeted antiviral therapies. Read more >>

At TNAC, we support CMV research by offering a comprehensive range of high-quality CMV antigens and antibodies, including the recently added CMV IgM. Contact us to learn more about our expanding diagnostic portfolio.

Protect Yourself This Tick Season

Summer adventures can bring a hidden danger: tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), a serious viral illness with no cure but preventable by vaccination. Ticks, found in forests, meadows, and even urban parks, can transmit both TBE and Lyme disease. To stay safe, wear long, light-colored clothing, use tick repellents, avoid tick hotspots, and check your skin regularly. If bitten, remove the tick promptly with tweezers.

TNAC supports TBE prevention through its wide portfolio of tick proteins, aiding research and diagnostic development. Speak to your healthcare provider about vaccination and enjoy the outdoors safely this season.
