Europe’s Deadliest Tick-Borne Virus Returns: Four CCHF Cases Reported in Spain
Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), a severe tick-borne disease with reported fatality rates of up to 40%, remains under close surveillance across Europe. In 2026, Spain has reported four locally acquired cases.
With tick season still ongoing across many parts of Europe, health authorities are urging people spending time outdoors to take precautions against tick bites. The virus is transmitted primarily by Hyalomma ticks, which are established across southern Europe and are increasingly attracting public health attention. To support surveillance, diagnostic development and vaccine research, The Native Antigen Company offers a portfolio of CCHF antigens, including recombinant nucleoproteins and glycoproteins, alongside hundreds of viral, bacterial and parasitic antigens that enable infectious disease research worldwide. Bundibugyo Ebola Outbreak Continues to Escalate in DRC
The ongoing Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached a worrying new milestone, with 7,890 confirmed cases and 3,799 deaths reported as of 23 September 2026, representing a case fatality rate of 48.1%. Since the beginning of September alone, more than 1,100 new cases and 500 deaths have been recorded, while the outbreak has now spread to 63 health zones across seven provinces, increasing concerns around further regional transmission. With no approved vaccine or specific treatment currently available for Bundibugyo Ebola, rapid diagnosis and surveillance remain critical. To support researchers and diagnostic developers responding to this unprecedented outbreak, The Native Antigen Company has recently launched a recombinant Bundibugyo Ebola GP1 antigen, with a recombinant nucleoprotein (NP) antigen coming soon. These additions complement TNAC's extensive portfolio of Ebola and filovirus reagents, supporting assay development, epidemiological studies, and outbreak preparedness. First Breeding Population of Dengue Mosquito Found in London
In a development that has caught the attention of public health experts, Aedes aegypti, the mosquito responsible for spreading dengue, Zika, chikungunya and yellow fever, has been found breeding in east London for the first time. While UKHSA stresses that the current risk to the public remains low and no human infections have been linked to the discovery, the finding highlights how climate change and global travel are increasing opportunities for invasive disease vectors to appear in new regions. As mosquito-borne diseases continue to expand their geographic reach, The Native Antigen Company supports surveillance, diagnostic development and vaccine research with an extensive portfolio of arboviral antigens, including dengue (all four serotypes), Zika, chikungunya, yellow fever, West Nile virus and Japanese encephalitis virus reagents.
