Suspected Cholera Case Reported in Poland
Poland’s National Public Health Authority has reported a suspected case of cholera in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The patient, an elderly woman, is being treated at the provincial hospital in Szczecin after showing gastrointestinal symptoms. Her condition is currently stable. Laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of Vibrio cholerae bacteria.
Further testing is underway to determine whether the strain is toxin-producing, which would confirm a cholera diagnosis. Health officials are closely monitoring the situation and urge the public to stay informed, though no additional cases have been reported so far. Read more >>

Imported Oropouche Virus Disease Cases in Europe

While the virus poses low risk in Europe due to the absence of its main vector, travelers to affected areas should use insect repellent and protective clothing. Pregnant women should be especially cautious. Read more >>

The ECDC warns that large gatherings may increase health risks, especially from vaccine-preventable diseases like measles and COVID-19. While the overall risk remains low with proper precautions, authorities urge attendees to stay vigilant. Enhanced surveillance is underway as the Holy Year reaches its peak this summer.
Since the beginning of 2025, and as of 23 July 2025, three countries in Europe have reported human cases of West Nile virus infection: Greece, Italy and Romania. Moreover, this week, Italy reported two locally-acquired dengue cases in the province of Bologna in addition to the first case reported last week. Read more >>
